This Chewbacca figure was released in the SAGA LEGENDS line in August 2009 and is based on a a previously released mold from the 2005 Walmart exclusive Early Bird Kit.
This is fantastic, because it can be considered the definite sculpt of the beloved Wookiee. The figure is super articulated with 15 joints, including 2 ball-joints, one in his upper torso, and one in his waist. The way the figure stands and leans is spot on compared to the way Peter Mayhew portrayed Chewbacca in the movies. Despite so many joints, they are not distracting and don't look out of place.
Chewie has also the correct height when compared to the other 3 3/4 figures. The breathing mask fits very tightly around Chewie's head and covers his mouth/nose area nicely. His Bowcaster sits very nicely in his right hand and doesn't fall out every time you reposition him. Chewbacca's satchel is glued on on his upper back and can't be removed. Hasbro did a great job not gluing the satchel onto the figure at the bottom, so it looks like it's actually hanging loosely on the figure.
The paint application is well done with different shades of brown and black, and some light highlights on the front of the figure. Chewie stands securely on his own and doesn't need additional help from a stand. All things considered, this is a fantastic Chewbacca figure from top to bottom, and there is really nothing to complain about. Unless you already own four other Chewbacca figures based on this mold, you should pick this one up!
The fierce Wookiee is Han Solo's smuggling partner and copilot of the Millennium Falcon. He uses a breath mask while repairing the malfunctioning Falcon inside an asteroid that provides a convenient location to hide from pursuing Imperial fighters.
