MORE INFORMATION

  • The Black Series Cantina Showdown 3-pack was a Hasbro Pulse Con 2021 exclusive in the United States which was released at the end of October 2021
  • The set was part of Hasbro's Lucasfilm's 50th anniversary celebration and featured the Lucasfilm logo on the packaging
  • The 3-pack is a homage to the in 1997 released 3 3/4" Cantina Showdown 3-pack set from the Power Of The Force toy line (you can see both sets stacked here)
  • The set included figures of Ponda Baba, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Dr. Evazan along with Cantina Bar pieces
  • Ponda Baba came with a blaster, a removable jacket (kind of) and a set of fin hands
  • For this figure Hasbro worked off of the Black Series Luke Skywalker (Yavin) figure, repainted the body and outfit, added new hands/fins, a new head and blaster
  • Ponda Baba's jacket is removable, but the jacket's sleeves are sculpted and painted onto the arms, so taking it off doesn't make sense
  • The color tones on the pants and jacket match Ponda Baba from A New Hope well
  • The head sculpt looks very nice on this figure
  • The blaster was painted well with silver and a red grip
  • The wrists have rocker-joints in them but because the sleeves go a little over the hand it's not possible to bend the wrists much
  • The arm is not removable and you can't re-create the scene after Ponda Baba's arm was cut-off by Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Because Hasbro re-used most of the Luke Skywalker figure for this Ponda Baba the holster doesn't fit the blaster
  • It's easy to exchange the hands with the included fins, simply pull the hands off and plug the fins into the sockets (Ponda Baba was seen drinking at the bar holding the glass with fins when Luke and Obi-Wan first enter the cantina, but when the arm was cut off it had an alien hand -> Hasbro included both with the figure)
  • Ponda Baba stands well on display without falling over
  • Even though it makes sense to re-use parts of the Luke Skywalker (Yavin) figure for this release, we would have liked to see more care put into this Ponda Baba figure with a re-sculpted and Ponda Baba approprite holster and an extra arm so that the figure could be displayed with the arm on or cut off
  • Even though the legs were sculpted with a stripe on the sides it was left unpainted (it should have been yellow on both sides)
  • For a detailed look at the Cantina Bar pieces have a look here: Black Series Cantina Bar
  • Thank you to Hasbro for providing this set for free for the database
  • This same figure but without the fins was released in Hasbro's Black Series basic line, have a look here: Black Series Ponda Baba
