Star Wars, released in 1977, revolutionized not just cinema but also the world of merchandising, sparking the creation of an entire industry centered around action figures. The film's immense popularity created a fervent demand for Star Wars-themed toys, but Kenner Products, the company that secured the licensing rights, did not obtain the Star Wars license until April 1977, just one month before the movie's debut. Faced with the challenge of rapid production, Kenner was unable to release any Star Wars action figures until Spring 1978. Despite this, the line of action figures that eventually arrived became iconic, setting the stage for the expansive and enduring toy industry that has since become synonymous with the Star Wars franchise. Kenner’s initial figures laid the groundwork for a legacy of collectibles that continues to captivate fans and collectors around the world.
