Disney surprised Star Wars action figure collectors in the Summer of 2015 by releasing their own Star Wars action figure line. The Disney Elite Die Cast action figure line is exclusively available through the Disney Store and each action figure is hand-painted and carefully crafted by Disney artists to ensure that every detail of a character is captured. Star Wars Disney Elite Series Die Cast figures are heavy because they are made out of metal with additional plastic parts. These figures stand about 6.5" tall and cost individually boxed between $25 - $30. The very first Disney Elite Series Die Cast action figures were sold at Disney's D23 convention on August 14, 2015 in Anaheim, CA. This beautifully designed set was limited to 500 pieces world wide and it included eight Star Wars figures. Even though the Disney Store re-released six out of the eight figures individually boxed later on, the vac-metallized Disney Elite Series Die Cast C-3PO and the clean R2-D2 action figures remained exclusive to this set. The official kick-off for the single boxed Disney Elite Series Die Cast figures in Disney Stores was on Force Friday September 4th, 2015, which was the official product launch for Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise world wide.
