This morning Hasbro held a livestream on the Hasbro Pulse YouTube channel which was focused on the current HasLab Rancor campaign. Jing, who is brand manager for The Black Series, and Eric who is a designer on the Black Series, shared some exciting news with fans and spent about 30 minutes talking about the thought process that went into making the Rancor. Besides highlighting some key features the team also revealed the first HasLab Rancor tier and mentioned that there will be 4 tiers in total.
The drool on the Rancor will be movable so you can display him in a variety of different ways, it's also possible to have the Rancor make a complete fist and the mouth opens wide enough so that he can chew on some Black Series 6" figures. The team also mentioned that they were surprised how well the very first prototype of the figure worked and that it kept its balance perfectly despite being a very large figure. Even though the first prototype on hand is still unpainted, it was mentioned that the final Rancor will have 9 times the deco than a regular Black Series figure.
The most exciting announcement today however was the reveal of the first tier, which will be a Gamorrean Guard. Even though the figure will be identical to the single boxed released figure, it will be packaged in 1985 Kenner-style Power Of The Force packaging which will also come with a coin. For connoisseurs of Kenner-style packaging from the mid 1980's this is a very cool throwback, especially because this will be shipped to fans in time for the 40th anniversary of the Return Of The Jedi in 2023. The figure and coin in this packaging will only be available with the Rancor.
You can back the Rancor on Hasbro Pulse until December 6, 2021.
