MORE INFORMATION

This R-3PO figure was released in a Walmart exclusive 2-pack in 2008 together with Han Solo in Hoth Gear. The Protocol Droid can be seen briefly in The Empire Strikes Back, during some of the rebel's Echo Base scenes.

The figure has 8 joints total, lacking elbow, wrist and ankle articulation. Due to the lack of movable parts you are somewhat limited as to how you can position the figure. Luckily though, Hasbro gave R-3PO a ball-jointed waist, which makes it possible to balance the figure better and with a bit of patience you should be able to get him to stand securely without the need of a stand.

The paint application is a glossy red, with the eyes being a bright and simple yellow. There is no visible dirt on him or any kind of scratches or battle damage. The paint job is pretty basic overall and doesn't impress. There were no weapons or any kind of accessories included with the figure, and even if there were, R-3PO couldn't use them because his hands are molded so that they can't hold anything.

All in all, this is a lackluster R-3PO figure, mainly due to the limited articulation and the glossy paint. Furthermore, the Protocol Droid is supposed to have a tattoo on his left back which reads "thank the maker", which is also missing from this release. As a background figure in your diorama however, it'll work just fine. Considering though that Hasbro has released many super articulated Protocol Droids with about 14 joints in the Legacy Collection, this droid certainly falls short in comparison with them.
