This L8-L9 figure was released in wave 8 in 2009's Legacy Collection as a build-a-droid figure. L8-L9 can be seen in chapter 6 of the 2D animated Tartkovsky Clone Wars TV show during the scenes where Asajj Ventress battles all kinds of monsters in the Rattatakian test arena, before becoming Count Dooku's apprentice.
The battle droid is super articulated with 14 joints and comes with two attachable flames. Both flames plug into L8-L9's under arms and stay firmly attached. Due to the weight of the flames, the figure can't keep its balance, but you can use the flames as additional leg support, which helps to keep the figure standing. If you however prefer to pose the droid with the flames pointing at an opponent, you'll need to get a stand. Luckily, the joints are pretty tight, so even if you have the elbows in a 45 degree angle, they'll stay in that position and won't give in to the weight of the attached flames.
The biggest disappointment with this L8-L9 figure is the paint application. While it is pretty close to the on-screen version, it's missing some light red details on the thighs, the chest and the head. This is unfortunate, because the details are molded into the figure, just not painted right. With the entire droid just being red, it makes it feel a bit plain overall, but that's just the way the droid looked in the TV show.
All in all, this L8-L9 figure is a decent, super articulated battle droid which could have been better by paying more attention to the paint job on the armor details. Despite that though, for fans of the 2004/2005 Tartakovsky Clone Wars TV show this figure is a treat. Hasbro hasn't been producing any figures based on that show for a long time!
There was no packaging text for L8-L9. The figure was a BAD (build-a-droid) figure and could only be obtained when figures with all the individual parts were purchased and then assembled.
