The Battle Droid Commander was released in a Target exclusive 2-pack in 2009 together with Jedi Master Mace Windu. The set was part of the Geonosis Arena Showdown series, which started in 2009 during The Legacy Collection, and by Fall of 2010 consisted of twelve 2-packs totaling 24 figures. The figure is based on the Battle Droid Commander who could be seen attacking Mace Windu in the Geonosian arena in Attack Of The Clones.
The Battle Droid Commander features the same articulation as the generic red Battle Droid from the same Target exclusive Geonosis 2-pack series. This means the droid has 13 joints, including a ball-joined neck, 2 ball-jointed shoulders, 2 swivel elbows, 2 ball-jointed legs, 2 swivel knees and 2 swivel ankles. The neck can also be pulled out, extending the head. The figure stands surprisingly well, despite the skinny legs and loose joints, but it might take a while until you get it to look right. And just like on the previously released Battle Droid, the antenna on the back of the figure is removable and the blaster fits very well into both hands.
The paint job on this Battle Droid Commander is very well done, with lots of dirt on it. It's done in a subtle way, but all over the body, which is cool. The yellow markings on the back of the head and the circle on the front are painted nicely as well. The sculpt itself captures the likeness of the Battle Droid Commander very well, but the super loose joints, skinny legs and arms are annoying. All things considered though, it's a decent figure.
The Jedi Knights rush to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padme from execution. The Jedi brandish their lightsabers against the Geonosian warriors and the massive army of battle droids, super battle droids and droidekas. All hope seems lost that any Jedi will survive this battle, then Yoda arrives with an army of clone troopers. Although many Jedi are lost that day, others survive this climatic battle that ushers in the Clone Wars.
