Two weeks from today San Diego Comic Con 2019 will be in full swing and that means that you can score some awesome Star Wars action figures which are exclusive to the show. This article was written to clarify all the questions which you might have about what figures will be available, how much they will cost and what other opportunities you might have aquiring them after the show.
The one set which we are the most excited about is THE VINTAGE COLLECTION 3.75-INCH ORIGINAL TRILOGY LUKE SKYWALKER JEDI DESTINY 3-pack. Even though all three prototypes on display during Star Wars Celebration Chicago had painted faces, it was announced during Hasbro's panel that all figures will have the photo real face printing tech implemented for a more life-like appearance. This 3-pack will cost $49.99 and will be available at booth #3329 at San Diego Comic Con 2019.
Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper Disguise will have a new belt with the grappling hook in the back, he'll have the correct height, an updated torso, a new head sculpt and a new helmet. Hasbro will also include a commlink and a Stormtrooper blaster. In other words, this will be the most accurate 3.75" action figure representation of Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper outfit to date. The release date is perfectly timed with the just recently released Han Solo (in Stormtrooper Disguise) figure!
Our personal favorite is Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight)! For this figure Hasbro improved the Luke Skywalker (Lightsaber Construction) figure from 2012 by giving it a new head, new hands, and a movie accurate robe (the robe has no sleeves this time around just the way it was seen in the movie). Luke Skywalker will also have slight Tatooine weathering on the shoes. The other accessories included are a green lightsaber, an open lightsaber hilt and a tool, all of them are re-releases from the 2012 lightsaber construction figure.
Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) will be a newly sculpted interpretation of the character. This will be an early release and the figure will come out single carded in either later 2019 or 2020 (this was confirmed to us during our interview with Hasbro at Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019, you can listen to the full interview on JBT). Luke Skywalker will come with a blaster and an X-Wing pilot helmet.
The packaging will get the high-glossy foil treatment. Here is a look at the collage on the back of the packaging. It pays tribute to Luke Skywalker's journey in the Original Trilogy.
The Star Wars Special Edition Retro Prototype 3.75" Darth Vader figure is part of the Star Wars Retro Collection and will be sold single carded during San Diego Comic Con 2019. The figure will cost $12.99 and can be purchased at the Entertainment Earth booth #2343 at San Diego Comic-Con and exclusively on Target.com in limited quantities following the convention.
The figure is a repaint of the Retro Collection Darth Vader figure and is a homage to the state of a Star Wars figure which is in an unpainted First Shot prototype stage. There are countless color variations for this figure.
Collecting prototypes has become a popular sub-genre in the Star Wars action figure collecting community, but prototypes are difficult to acquire and pricey. For many fans this will be the closest that they'll ever get to owning a prototype 3.75" Star Wars figure.
From the back of the packaging: "Experience the excitement of engineers and designers seeing the first product samples of their designs with this Darth Vader figure! Inspired by prototypes that are often produced with whatever extra resin is in the machine at the time, colorful prototypes enable the development team to look past the deco and focus on the sculpt, analyze mold alignment and make adjustments for quality."
The Black Series 6" Boba Fett figure will cost $24.99 and is going to be available at booth #3329 at Comic-Con International in San Diego. The figure is a repaint of the Black Series Boba Fett figure and pays homage to the original release of the 3.75" counterpart from 1979.
The packaging features next year's 40th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back logo on it which makes this the first product to officially celebrate Episode V's milestone. Hasbro announced that the final packaging will be given the foil treatment which will make it shiny and reflective just like some of the other Black Series 6" exclusive figure packagings we've seen.
If you live outside of the United States you might be in luck. You should be able to purchase the San Diego Comic Con exclusive Star Wars figures at following 2019 events:
Hasbro's press release stated that the Luke Skywalker Jedi Destiny and the Black Series 6" Boba Fett figures will be available at select retailers in Asia, so you might be able to find them at regular stores or online sites in a few countries.
It was confirmed to us during our interview with Hasbro at Star Wars Celebration Chicago that the European version of the Luke Skywalker Jedi Destiny 3-pack will feature multiple languages on the packaging. Keep this in mind if you collect variants or figures in their packaging.
After the conventions limited quantities may be available online at HasbroPulse.com.
Good luck everybody and MTFBWY!
