Streets Of Mos Eisley

4/2/2025

The Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Streets of Mos Eisley playset was released in late March/early April 2025 as a Fan Channel exclusive, meaning it was available only through specialty online retailers—not mass-market stores like Walmart or Target. It retailed for $59.99 and came packed with an exclusive Jawa action figure on a unique Vintage Collection-style card back.

This article isn't sponsored by Hasbro, but if you'd like to support GalacticFigures.com you can check this Amazon page to see if they still have the Streets Of Mos Eisley playset in stock, and if you make a purchase through those links, we'll get paid a small fee which helps to keep the lights on here and the server running (thank you!).

Packaging

As expected from The Vintage Collection, the packaging proudly showcases that classic Kenner-inspired design, reminiscent of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Collectors will appreciate the nostalgic appeal and consistency with other releases in the line. The carded Jawa is a particular standout, featuring artwork exclusive to this set.

Assembly and Components

Assembly is straightforward and fast. The playset consists of four main plastic parts:

  • Two walls
  • One arched doorway
  • Stairs

All pieces snap together securely without the need for glue or tools. The modular nature of the design allows you to configure the layout however you like. It’s intended to be expandable—ideal for those who wish to recreate larger environments of Mos Eisley, Mos Espa, or even Anchorhead, by combining multiple sets.

Details and Accessories

While the overall sculpt and base color of the plastic capture the sandy aesthetic of Tatooine well, the parts come unweathered. There’s no wash or dry-brushing to enhance realism, which might be a letdown for those hoping for a more detailed finish straight out of the box.

Included accessories are:

  • Two crates (identical in sculpt, but painted differently: one yellow, one red-brown, the lid on both can be taken off)
  • A weathered generator box, which is the most detailed and eye-catching accessory in the set (the lid can be taken off)
  • A pole that rests against a wall
  • A small canister that can be placed freely anywhere within the diorama
  • A TT-8L/Y7 Gatekeeper Droid which can be attached to the entrance

No stickers are included, and aside from snapping the plastic parts together, there's nothing else required to complete the setup.

Modular Potential

The Streets of Mos Eisley playset was clearly conceptualized as a modular diorama system. With enough space and a few extra sets, collectors can build a sprawling Tatooine street scene, tailored to whatever location or figures they want to display. It’s designed to fit nicely into a standard IKEA Billy bookcase, making it a practical option for collectors with limited display space.

Areas for Improvement

While the set is impressive overall, there are a few areas where Hasbro could improve:

  • Half-dome design: The entry arch features a dome sculpt on the façade only—it's not a full or even half-sculpted dome. That means even combining two sets won’t allow you to complete the dome visually.
  • One-sided walls: The reverse side of the plastic pieces is completely unfinished, limiting display angles to just one direction.
  • TT-8L/Y7 Gatekeeper Droid mechanism: A door-mounted droid arm is included, similar to the one seen at Jabba’s Palace when C-3PO and R2-D2 arrive. It attaches to the wall with a lever mechanism, but there's no way to retract or display it in a "closed" state—it's always extended outward (or removed and missing).

Display Options

The set really shines when paired with existing Vintage Collection figures. Whether you're aiming to recreate scenes from The Book of Boba Fett's Anchorhead scenes with the newer Boba Fett and previously released Camie and Fixer figures, go prequel inspired or focus on A New Hope, there’s a lot of flexibility. This playset works seamlessly across various eras and figure releases based on Tatooine.

Final Thoughts

The Streets of Mos Eisley playset is a strong addition to The Vintage Collection. With so many Tatooine-based figures available over the years, it finally gives collectors a way to create a more immersive environment for them. While there are a few missed opportunities in terms of sculpting and paint apps, the value and modular expandability more than make up for it.

This set will also pair beautifully with the upcoming HasLab Mos Eisley Cantina, expected later in 2025, allowing collectors to build out the exterior environment to match the interior bar scene.

Highly recommended—and if you find it on sale, it’s absolutely worth picking up multiple sets.
