MORE INFORMATION

  • Astromech Droid R5-D33R was released single carded in early November 2021 exclusively through Disney Parks and ShopDisney.com
  • For this droid the Disney team chose classic Holiday colors such as gold, red and white
  • R5-D33R is based on Disney's Build-A-Droid line which means you can take it apart entirely (the dome, 2 legs, 1 middle leg, 1 body)
  • The only accessory included with the droid was a hat which has antlers attached to it
  • The hat plugs firmly into a hole in the top of the droid's dome
  • R5-D33R has no hidden gadgets or panels built in
  • R5-D33R's middle leg can be removed so that the droid can stand either with two or three legs
  • All three feet have wheels in the bottom so that the droid can be rolled around
  • R5-D33R stands well on display without falling over
  • Additional information from Cody Hampton, a Disney castmember, who was involved in the creation of the droid (from StarWars.com): Every year our team gets excited to brainstorm a new droid for the holiday season. This year’s droid drew inspiration from many different areas. We knew we wanted this droid to be on a cold, wintery planet like Hoth, and thought about what one might encounter there. Drawing on traditional archetypes of the season, reindeer, and Ralph McQuarrie’s 1979 holiday illustration where R2-D2 had antlers, we found our main inspiration, and R5-D33R was created! The red and gold color scheme is so classic for the holidays, so we played with the image of what a reindeer with sleigh bells may look like and incorporated the colors into R5-D33R.
