This concept Snowtrooper figure was released in December 2009 during the Legacy Collection's Empire Strikes Back wave. The figure is based on concept art created by artist Joe Johnston during the pre-visualization for The Empire Strikes Back.
The figure has a total of 14 joints, including ball-joints in the neck, both shoulders, arms, legs, knees and ankles. The only swivel joints are in both wrists and the waist. For the color of the trooper's armor, Hasbro chose a darker blue, with some red buttons and a red marking on the helmet and some darker gray/silverish accents on the backpack. It's impossible to say how accurate these colors are since the original concept sketch was penciled in black and white. However, the cooler blue color tone works nicely and fits well within the "Hoth" theme.
The Snowtrooper's Samurai inspired helmet is not removable, but looks very close to the original concept sketch. The blaster sits very loosely in the figure's right hand, but it sits well in the left, and it's also a very good fit for the holster. The backpack is removable and can be attached firmly on the back of the figure. All in all, this super articulated concept Snowtrooper action figure is a great addition to Hasbro's concept series and looks very close to what the original sketch looked like.
In this concept art by Joe Johnston, the Imperial snowtrooper wears armor with features that are reminiscent of armor actually worn by samurai warriors. The gear has stylized elegance while still protecting the trooper from blaster fire and extreme cold.
