This generic Super Battle Droid was released in a Target exclusive 2-pack in 2009 together with Jedi Knight Roth Del Masona. The set was part of the Geonosis Arena Showdown series, which started in 2009 during The Legacy Collection, and by Fall of 2010 consisted of twelve 2-packs totaling 24 figures. Super Battle Droid's could be seen in Attack Of The Clones when the Clone War started.
This figure appears to have been released in two different versions. The first version still contained the holes in the chest, while the later version in the same set didn't include them anymore. The figure reviewed here is the first version, with the holes in the chest. This Super Battle Droid has seen several releases over the years and each time it has some very minor paint modifications made to it. The figure has a total of 9 joints, including 2 ball-jointed shoulders, 2 ball-jointed elbows, a ball-jointed waist, 2 ball-jointed legs and swivel knees. The ankles on this particular version are not articulated. Unfortunately, this version still contains holes in the chest, which originally were there to be able to attach blast effects/flames on the figure. Needless to say that it doesn't look quite pleasing if you have a Super Battle Droid on display, which has two holes in the chest. It looks strange. There were no weapons or any other gadgets included with the droid.
The Super Battle Droid has a dark gray paint application, which works quite well overall. However, the lack of battle damage, weathering or any kind of dirt on it, makes it feel very simple. The sculpt used here is also not the most modern, because we've already seen Super Battle Droids with ankle joints. All in all, this Super Battle Droid is only average, and only good for picking up if you are looking to add more generic droids to your collection.
The Jedi Knights rush to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padme from execution. The Jedi brandish their lightsabers against the Geonosian warriors and the massive army of battle droids, super battle droids and droidekas. All hope seems lost that any Jedi will survive this battle, then Yoda arrives with an army of clone troopers. Although many Jedi are lost that day, others survive this climatic battle that ushers in the Clone Wars.
