The Last Jedi toy line debuted on Force Friday II September 1, 2017 world wide. Instead of including build-a-weapon parts or oversized fantasty type weapons with the figures, Hasbro implemented the FORCE LINK feature which made figures talk and gave creatures and vehicles sounds. The sound feature could be activated via the FORCE LINK wrist band, which includes a sensor and a speaker. For The Last Jedi toys Hasbro removed the NERF shooting mechanism from the previous Rogue One toy line and instead of giving pilot figures simple yellow visors Hasbro replaced them with see-through versions and a fully sculpted face behind it.
Hasbro released two different Force Link Starter Sets during The Last Jedi toy line in Fall of 2017. One, which included Kylo Ren, was available at all retail stores and the other was exclusively available at Toys'R'Us stores. The Toys'R'Us Force Link Starter Set cost $5 more than the regular version, but it included two instead of one figure.
