So, What Did We Learn From Hasbro's San Diego Comic Con 2019 Presentation?

Here is a rundown of everything we learned during Hasbro’s San Diego Comic-Con 2018 panel. We have also included images sent to us by Rob Paladino, a listener of Toy Run, the weekly podcast we produce. Thanks, Rob! What Did We Learn from Hasbro’s Presentation?

The Vintage Collection 3.75"

Beginning in 2019, Hasbro will use its Photo Real face-printing technology on The Vintage Collection figures. This is exciting news for collectors, as it should result in significantly more accurate facial likenesses and far fewer poor paint applications. Hasbro also confirmed several figures for 2019 and provided details about how many figures will be released each month. The current release schedule for The Vintage Collection looks like this:

In addition to giving collectors a glimpse into the middle of 2019, Hasbro showed The Vintage Collection TIE Fighter with pilot. The vehicle is a rerelease of the 2009 version from The Legacy Collection and is expected to arrive later this year. Hasbro also displayed several previously announced figures in their packaging. During the company’s annual media breakfast, Enfys Nest was revealed for The Vintage Collection, with the figure scheduled for release in August 2018.

The Clone Wars 3.75"

We also learned that Hasbro plans to support Star Wars: The Clone Wars with new action figures. However, we do not yet know which scale the figures will use or whether they will follow the animated style of the 2008–2013 toy line. They could instead feature entirely new interpretations of the characters. We hope Hasbro continues the previous line and finally produces several characters that have never been made, including:

1. Palpatine in his regular appearance, as Hasbro previously released Darth Sidious but never a standard Palpatine figure
2. Pong Krell
3. Riff Tamson
4. Tee Watt Kaa
5. Admiral Trench

Force Link 2.0 3.75"

Hasbro displayed several figures from the Star Wars Force Link 2.0 series, although the future of the line remains unclear beyond these releases. The figures shown looked fantastic and will nicely round out the lineup of Star Wars characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story. One of the biggest surprises was the reveal of two playsets for the 3.75" line: a cardboard Kessel Mine playset and a Vandor-1 playset.

There was no word about the Walmart-exclusive A-Wing Fighter, which is already available internationally, or the R2-D2 and C-3PO two-pack that was recently found at a Canadian Toys’R’Us store.

The Black Series 6"

Hasbro revealed several exclusive The Black Series figures for the remainder of the year and introduced the Archive Series, a new greatest-hits line. Every figure in the series will be packaged on a blister card, while human characters will feature Hasbro’s Photo Real face-printing technology.

The first four figures in The Black Series Archive line will be:

1. Boba Fett
2. IG-88
3. Bossk
4. Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot)

This will give fans another opportunity to complete the bounty hunter lineup from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back at regular retail prices. Hasbro also displayed the Imperial Patrol Trooper from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Overall, Hasbro brought its A-game to the convention and revealed a lot of exciting products. Collectors can look forward to new playsets, excellent 6-inch figures, a nicely sculpted lineup of Force Link 2.0 characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story, and plenty of new information about upcoming releases for The Vintage Collection. The remainder of 2018 and the first half of 2019 are shaping up to be an exciting time for Star Wars action figure collectors!
