Star Wars Galaxy's Edge - A First Look At The 3.75" Color-Changing Droids

6/8/2019 Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Disney Parks Color-Changing Droids

Stay tuned to J.B. over the coming days for a Droid Factory Playset review, a break-down of all the parts and a close look at every color-changing droid which was released on opening day of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge in Anaheim, CA.

There was a Gonk Droid included with the Droid Factory Playset, and Disney sold two 4-packs, which brought the total to nine different color-changing droids. The color of the droids changes based on the temperature, this can be achieved by placing them in cold or warm water, or by simply placing them into the freezer or heating them up with your fingers or even a hair dryer.

Here is a look at every color-changing droid from Star Wars Galaxy's Edge opening day on May 31, 2019:

The recommended temperature mentioned on the packaging for the color change to occur is 86° to 107.6° Fahrenheit (30° - 42° Celsius) and 32° - 64° Fahrenheit (0° - 18° Celsius). Each droid uses the Build-A-Droid sculpt from Disney's Droid Factory series.

The color-changing works very well overall, the only issue which we've come across is that a white droid will keep a pinkish color and will never turn fully white. This was noticeable on R2-D2, the CZ droid and BB-8.

This Gonk Droid is the same sculpt as the one which was included with Disney's Sandcrawler vehicle, the figure was packed-in with the Droid Factory Playset.

The color-changing droids are pricey, each 4-pack costs $39.99 and the Droid Factory Playset retails for $49.99 at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. The color-changing droids are fun and by purchasing those sets you can get prominent droids which had more screen time in the movies/TV shows such as R2-D2, C-3PO, BB-8, BB9-e and Chopper.

Look for a full review of every figure and a detailed look at the Droid Factory Playset over the coming days. For now, have a look at our Star Tours page and look at previously released droids.
