Hasbro Gets It Wrong Again: INT-4 Interceptor Launch Contradicts Its Own Press Release

Earlier today, Hasbro’s 3.75-inch Star Wars: The Vintage Collection INT-4 Interceptor became available to order at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. However, the launch brought two major surprises for collectors: significantly more limited availability and a much higher price than originally announced.

When the vehicle was first revealed, Hasbro listed the INT-4 Interceptor at $51.99 and stated that it would be available through participating retailers. Based on previous releases, collectors reasonably expected it to appear at outlets such as Amazon, GameStop, Entertainment Earth, and other online retailers.

Instead, the vehicle appears to be available exclusively through HasbroPulse.com. Even more surprising was the price. Rather than the previously announced $51.99, the INT-4 Interceptor is being sold for $79.99, an unexpected increase of $28, or roughly 54% from what was announced.

The situation is even more concerning for international collectors. In parts of Europe, the vehicle is priced at nearly €110, which is equivalent to more than $125 in U.S. currency currently.

At prices like these, particularly in international markets, the long-term health of the hobby becomes a genuine concern. Many collectors will have little choice but to focus only on their favorite characters and vehicles. The world-building and completionist aspects that have traditionally made the 3.75-inch scale so appealing are quickly becoming financially unrealistic.

If price increases of this magnitude continue, it raises serious questions about the future viability of the 3.75-inch line. It is also disappointing that Hasbro did not address the pricing change before orders opened, especially considering the substantial difference between the originally announced price and the final retail price.

The Black Series AT-RT, which also was made available for pre-orders this morning, also received a last-minute price increase from $69.99 to $79.99. While another unexpected $10 increase is certainly unwelcome, it does not feel nearly as drastic as the increase experienced by Vintage Collection collectors today.

Hopefully, future releases will feature more reasonable pricing and clearer communication from Hasbro so collectors know exactly what to expect before products become available.
