This Emperor Palpatine figure was released in April 1997 and is based on Palpatine's appearance in The Return Of The Jedi. The figure has only four movable parts (head, 2 arms, waist) which even for back then wasn't much. The legs are molded together as one big "stump", and because of this you can be sure that it won't fall over when it's on display. The walking stick sits bit loosely in Palpatine's right hand, but it works good enough. The paint job is basic, but the figure has some nice reddish accents around the eyes which is a nice detail.
Despite the lack of articulation, this Palpatine figure beats modern figures with its overall look and aesthetics. This figure looks just like what Palpatine looked like in Return Of The Jedi when he walked down the ramp of the Imperial Shuttle, and this is something that Hasbro has yet to capture in any of the modern Palpatine figures more than 12 years after this figure was released. All in all, if you are looking for a Palpatine figure based on "Jedi", this figure can easily be recommended!
Kenner did not release a biography or story with this Emperor Palpatine figure.
