The Power Of The Force

Basic Assortment 1995 - 1996

The orange carded The Power Of The Force toy line launched in July of 1995 with nine Star Wars figures including Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, R2-D2, Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi, Stormtrooper, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia Organa. The next wave of figures wasn't released until February of 1996 and by the end of that year the orange carded run included 26 single cards (plus variations). Although Hasbro only released nine Star Wars figures in 1995 they released five vehicles to go with them right out of the gate including the Millennium Falcon, AT-ST, Tie Fighter, X-Wing Fighter and Landspeeder.

Classic Edition 4-Pack

Listed here are four Star Wars figures which were released in 1995 in a Classic Edition 4-pack exclusively at Toys'R'Us stores in the United States. Each figure had a 1995 copyright imprint on it which makes it easy to differentiate from the original figures from 1978.

Deluxe Assortment 1996

One year after the relaunch of the 3.75" Star Wars action figure line Hasbro decided to add the Deluxe assortment to the line-up. The first three figures were released in September 1996 on orange cards with another four released on green cards in January of 1997 (those four figure are listed further down).

Figures With Vehicles 1996

In February of 1996 Hasbro released the only vehicle in orange packaging which included a Star Wars figure (Imperial Speeder Bike), all other vehicles released in orange packaging didn't include figures.

Basic Assortment 1997 - 1998

The first brand new Star Wars figures on a green card were released in February of 1997. The line ran for 1 year before Hasbro changed the packaging to the Freeze Frame cards.

Freeze Frame Assortment 1998 - 1999

The Freeze Frame series was officially released in January 1998 and like the name implies, each single carded Star Wars figure was packed together with a freeze frame slide.

Deluxe Assortment 1997

Following four Deluxe figures were released in January (Boba Fett/Probe Droid) and June (Snowtrooper/Hoth Rebel Soldier) of 1997 on green cards.

Gunner Stations 1998

There were three different Star Wars Gunner Stations available throughout 1998. The first two were released in April of 1998 with Han Solo and Luke Skywalker (both came with connecting Millennium Falcon gunner chairs) and Darth Vader, who was released in July 1998, came with his Tie Fighter cockpit.

Cinema Scene 3-packs

Kenner/Hasbro released a total of ten Cinema Scene 3-packs.

Complete Galaxy

Kenner/Hasbro released a total of four figures in the Complete Galaxy line. Each figure came with a small diorama globe.

Millennium Minted Coin Collection

The Millennium Minted Coin Collection was exclusive to Toys'R'Us and featured a total of seven figures. Each figure came with a display stand and a coin.

Max Rebo 2-Packs

The Max Rebo Band pairs were exclusive to Walmart stores. There were a total of three 2-packs.

Expanded Universe

Hasbro/Kenner released a total of nine Expanded Universe figures. Each figure came with a 3-D cardboard backdrop which served as a small diorama.

Princess Leia 2-Packs

There were a total of four Princess Leia 2-packs available.

Commtech Series

In the Commtech series there were nine indvidually carded figures released. Darth Vader was packed-in with the IT-O Interrogation Droid and the Jawa was packed-in with the GONK Droid. Each figure came with a chip, which when placed over a separately sold reader, it would then read out loud lines the character had in the movie. This was another attempt by Hasbro to tie the Original Trilogy figures together with the Episode I action figures, which also came with Commtech chips.

Mail-In/Fan Club/Exclusives

Here is a look at some mail-away, internet, pack-in or other type of exclusive figures.

F/X Electronic Figures 1997

There were a total of five figures released in the Power F/X Electronic assortment in February of 1997. Each figure had a button which triggered some electronics, and each figure allowed for access to the battery compartment so that the batteries could be changed once they were depleted.

Flashback Series

The Flashback figures served as a bridge to the prequel trilogy. There were eleven figures released, and each figure came with a "flashback photo". When the tap at the bottom of the photo was either pulled or pushed up, the picture would change to either the prequel or the original trilogy character.
