MORE INFORMATION

This Super Battle Droid was released in a Target exclusive 2-pack in Fall 2010 together with Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The set was part of the Geonosis Arena Showdown series, which started in 2009 during The Legacy Collection, and by Fall of 2010 consisted of twelve 2-packs totaling 24 figures. In the movies, Super Battle Droids were first seen in Attack Of The Clones during the arena battle on Geonosis.

The droid has 11 joints, including ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, the waist, both legs and ankles. The knees were given swivel joints. The neck, due to the droid's design, is not articulated. There are also no joints in the wrists. Thanks to big feet, the ball-jointed hip and ankles, the figure stands very nicely on its own. The joints are also not as loose as seen in the past, which is a plus since it makes it easier to adjust the figure's stance. This might greatly vary from figure to figure, but our example worked very well. There were no weapons or other accessories included with the droid.

The paint application on the Super Battle Droid is light gray/silver with the middle section being darker gray. The non-removable laser cannon that's built into the droid's right forearm is also painted in a darker shade of gray. The only other color on the droid is the red dot on the upper left chest. There is no dirt or battle damage to be found on it. The sculpt, which puts this figure about half a head taller than a basic Star Wars figure, manages to capture the likeness of these droids very well. In some ways, this version of the Super Battle Droid is better than the Vintage Collection version from 2011, because of the adjustable ankles. We usually don't try to advocate "more articulation is better", but since these droids have somewhat skinny legs and bigger upper bodies, it's almost necessary to have these joints in the figures to balance them out better. All in all, this Geonosis Arena Showdown version of the Super Battle Droid is well done, but there is still room for improvement.

PACKAGING TEXT

The Jedi Knights rush to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padme from execution. The Jedi brandish their lightsabers against the Geonosian warriors and the massive army of battle droids, super battle droids and droidekas. All hope seems lost that any Jedi will survive this battle, then Yoda arrives with an army of clone troopers. Although many Jedi are lost that day, others survive this climatic battle that ushers in the Clone Wars.
