Released in 1996 for $9.99, Kenner's Star Wars: Power Of The Force Detention Block Rescue playset gave collectors one of the earliest scene-specific environments in the modern Star Wars action figure line. Based on the Death Star detention block from A New Hope, this small playset lets fans recreate Princess Leia's rescue from cell 2187 in detention block AA-23, along with the hallway shootout and escape into the trash chute.
Thank you for joining us for a closer look at Kenner/Hasbro's Star Wars Power Of The Force TIE Fighter, released in the orange Power Of The Force (2) packaging in July/August 1995. The TIE Fighter was among the very first vehicles released when the modern Star Wars action figure line returned to stores, ending the ten-year hiatus that followed the end of the original Kenner Star Wars line in 1985. The Tie Fighter cost $19.99 at the time of its release in 1995 and was based on the Tie Fighter's The Empire Strikes Back appearance with a blue hull.
Released in 1998 for $18.99, the Star Wars: The Power Of The Force Jabba’s Palace 3D Display Diorama gave collectors an instant Return Of The Jedi display environment for their growing Jabba’s Palace action figure collection. At 25 inches wide, this cardboard diorama offered a large, colorful backdrop at a very affordable price, especially considering that it also included an exclusive Han Solo in Carbonite action figure. Released by Hasbro in 1997 as part of the Star Wars: The Power of the Force toy line, the Endor Attack Playset gave collectors a small but fun slice of the forest moon from Star Wars: Episode VI Return Of The Jedi. The set originally retailed for $14.99 and came in the green Power of the Force packaging from the era.
Hasbro released the Power of the Force T-16 Skyhopper for 3 3/4" Star Wars action figures in 1997 as a wide retail release with a suggested retail price of $19.99. Originally, the T-16 was only seen parked in the Lars Homestead garage in A New Hope, and we had to wait until the special edition of Return Of The Jedi to get a look at the vehicle in air during the final celebration sequence. This 1997 release remains the only full-sized T-16 Skyhopper vehicle Hasbro has ever made available for the 3 3/4-inch line.

Released in 1996 as part of Hasbro's Power of the Force line, the Power of the Force Death Star Escape playset offered collectors an affordable and interactive way to recreate one of the most memorable moments from Star Wars: A New Hope. Priced at just $9.99 at retail, this set now stands out as an incredible value in hindsight, especially considering the play features and display potential it still offers nearly 30 years later. Designed around the iconic Death Star Escape sequence, this playset remains a nostalgic centerpiece for fans looking to capture that classic cinematic moment.
Released in 1997 as part of Hasbro's Star Wars: Power of the Force line, the Cruisemissile Trooper arrived as a mainline vehicle at a retail price of $12.99. Even though the Cruisemissile Trooper never appeared in any of the Star Wars films, it stands out as one of the earliest modern-era Expanded Universe-style toys, long before that label became commonly used. For collectors of 3 3/4-inch Star Wars toys, the Cruisemissile Trooper remains one of the more unusual and memorable vehicle releases from the late 1990s.
Hasbro released the Power of the Force 2 Hoth Battle playset in 1997 as part of The Power of the Force (2) toy line. Priced at $14.99 at retail, the set gave Star Wars collectors a compact Hoth-themed display piece inspired by the icy battle scenes from The Empire Strikes Back.
The Power of the Force Mos Eisley Cantina backdrop remains one of the most memorable display pieces released during Hasbro's Power of the Force 2 era. Released in 1998, this Mos Eisley Cantina cardboard backdrop gave collectors an affordable and visually impressive way to recreate one of the most iconic locations from Star Wars. Even today, it stands out as a fun and nostalgic centerpiece for anyone building a classic late-1990s Star Wars display.
Presented here are several scans from a promotional booklet that was included with select The Power of the Force (2) toys during the mid to late 1990s. The vibrant, eye-catching design of these materials perfectly captures the spirit of that era and brings back memories of an incredibly exciting time to be collecting.
Released in 1997 during Kenner and Hasbro’s Power of the Force 2 line, the Airspeeder was a mainline retail release with a very reasonable price tag of $14.99. Designed for 3 ¾-inch Star Wars action figures, this vehicle was not an exclusive and could be found at major retailers at the time. What made it especially appealing was the inclusion of an exclusive Airspeeder pilot figure based on a Ralph McQuarrie concept sketch, making the Power of the Force Airspeeder an attractive offering for collectors who appreciate early Star Wars concept art.
