The Power Of The Force
The Power Of The Force toy line started in July of 1995 and ran for five years until 2000. Even though the first few figures looked buff and muscular (which was a reflection of the Hollywood Schwarzenegger/Stallone trend) the toy line was well received by collectors and Star Wars fans everywhere were happy that their beloved 3.75" action figure line from their childhood continued. Even though Hasbro, Inc. purchased the Tonka Corporation, which included Kenner Products and Parker Brothers, in 1991, they kept using the Kenner logo instead of their own Hasbro logo on the packaging until the Episode 1 toy line in 1999.
Commtech Series
In the Commtech series there were nine indvidually carded figures released. Darth Vader was packed-in with the IT-O Interrogation Droid and the Jawa was packed-in with the GONK Droid. Each figure came with a chip, which when placed over a separately sold reader, it would then read out loud lines the character had in the movie. This was another attempt by Hasbro to tie the Original Trilogy figures together with the Episode I action figures, which also came with Commtech chips.
