MORE INFORMATION

R2-D2 a.k.a. Bar2-D2 was released individually carded in November 2010 as part of The Vintage Collection. The figure is based on R2-D2's appearance in The Return Of The Jedi when he was serving drinks on Jabba's Sail Barge.

The astromech droid has a total of six joints, with a rotating dome, two movable legs, and three swivel ankles. The left and right leg each have two wheels in the bottom so that Artoo can be moved around. The middle leg doesn't have any wheels, but it can manually be pushed out. The droid has a compartment in the front of the body which opens up and lets you pull out one of R2's arms. Hasbro included a serving tray with seven individual glasses on it, which can be placed on top of R2's dome where it rests on both of the droid's legs. Besides the serving tray, Hasbro included Luke Skywalker's Return Of The Jedi lightsaber hilt, a drink dispenser and a sensorscope with the figure.

The dome has a hole in it where either the lightsaber hilt or the sensorscope can be placed in. When you push either of them into the dome, the middle leg of the droid will extend and place R2-D2 in a 3-legged position and hide the accessory inside the dome. If the saber or the sensorscope are not pushed in, they'll stick out, showing R2-D2 in a "ready-to-shoot the lightsaber" position, or with the sensorscope extended. The last accessory included was the "drink dispenser", which plugs into a hole in the middle of the dome. It is the perfect size to reach the glasses.

The paint application is very cleanly applied and matches R2-D2's colors very nicely. Some weathering or "Tatooine-sand" on the bottom of the droid would have been nice, but it's not a deal breaker. The sculpt, which is now a little bit smaller compared to previous R2-D2 versions, looks stunning. The only negative was that the front panel wouldn't close all the way, and left a small gap. But this might be an isolated issue only on the figure which we've reviewed. All in all, this R2-D2 is absolutely fantastic and should be part of any Star Wars collection.
