This R2-D2 figure was released single carded in August 2026 through the Fan Channel
The figure is very loosely based on Artoo's appearance in the Star Wars: Droids cartoon from 1985
For this figure Hasbro repainted their existing R2-D2 mold, included a plastic gold coin in addition to all the other accessories and packaged it on a cool eighties style blister card
Even though the panels on the outside of the legs are removable, Hasbro chose to not include any booster rockets with this release
There are two blue panels in the top of the dome where accessories can be plugged in, however, we were able to only open one of them and it appeared as if the second one was glued down
There are two vertical panels on the front of the droid which can be opened
Each panel covers three holes where the included tools/arms can be plugged in
When R2-D2 faces to the front or the back it's possible to pull the dome up and extend it upwards, this then reveals the storage area where the included accessories can be placed in
There are two additional lightblue horizontal panels on the front which can be opened but there are no tools behind them which could be pulled out
The middle leg can be pulled out out the body, this way the figure can be displayed in a two or three-legged way
The included collector coin is made out of very cheap bendy plastic
Artoo stands securely on display without any balancing issues
It's unclear why Hasbro decided to release this version of R2-D2 in 2026 without an anniversary for the series, but here he is ... if you grew with this cartoon in 1980s and collect the 6" line, then the colorful cardback will likely bring some nostalgia. If you are looking for a differently painted R2 or astromech droid, then this might be a good option since the sculpt is great and the figure has a unique paint deco
