MORE INFORMATION

Astromech Droid R2-D2 was released in a Target exclusive 2-pack in Fall 2010 together with protocol droid C-3PO. The set was part of the Geonosis Arena Showdown series, which started in 2009 during The Legacy Collection, and by Fall of 2010 consisted of twelve 2-packs totaling 24 figures. Artoo is based on his appearance in Attack Of The Clones, where he pulls C-3PO's head off a battle droid's body during the arena battle.

Geonosis R2 has 5 joints, including a rotating, non-clicking dome, 2 swivel legs and 2 swivel ankles. The middle leg can be detached, which lets you position him in either a two or three legged position. Each of R2-D2's feet has one roll in them, so he can be moved around. There were no weapons or accessories included with the droid, but R2-D2 has a few cool gadgets built-in. There is one panel in the front which can be opened to reveal a tool. In the back, R2-D2 has a "hidden" panel that holds a "cable", which can be used to "pull" C-3PO's head. There is no way to attach the cable to C-3PO's head, but it looks cool nonetheless. The top middle of R2-D2's dome has a clear plastic piece, which when light shines on it, lets the front eye of the droid light up.

The paint application on the Geonosis R2-D2 is cleanly applied and includes some "dirt" on the droid's legs and lower body. It looks pretty cool, but it could have used even more dirt. There really isn't much to complain about the sculpt, it really does look like R2-D2. Size-wise, it'll fit right in with all the other non-animated style astromech droids released to date. All in all, this R2-D2 turned out well, and if you feel you don't own enough figures of the little astromech droid yet, you might want to consider adding it to your collection.
