Monthly Star Wars Action Figure Re-Cap - August 2026

D23 led the Star Wars news in August, giving fans their first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 and an exclusive first look at Star Wars: Starfighter for people who were in attendance during the presentation. For collectors, Disney continued its Droid Factory program with the D23 exclusive R7-D23 and additional droid releases and announcements.

Away from D23, the month’s biggest collecting discussion centered on Hasbro’s Vintage Collection INT-4 Interceptor. Its unexpected preorder price and Hasbro’s subsequent explanation generated substantial frustration throughout the collecting community.

Here at GalacticFigures, we were busy as well. We launched Collector’s Corner, improved the site’s search tools, published four new A Closer Look features, and continued expanding the figure archive with Hasbro and Disney Droid Factory releases.

D23 2026

D23 took place from August 14 through 16 and gave Star Wars fans several important looks at the future of the franchise.

Lucasfilm debuted the first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 during the Disney Entertainment Showcase. The trailer confirmed that the series will return to Disney+ on January 20, 2027, and offered the first substantial preview of Grand Admiral Thrawn gathering the Imperial remnants and attacking the New Republic. Director Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling also presented an exclusive first look at Star Wars: Starfighter. The footage was shown to attendees inside the presentation but was not officially released to the public. Gosling will play Kade Auberon in the movie, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 28, 2027. While collectors will have to wait to see what toys might come from the film, this was our first real indication of the characters, vehicles (hot rod inspirations), and designs that could eventually make their way into the action figure lines.

Hasbro participated in D23 with its Bringing Star Wars Characters to Life Through Toys panel. The panel offered a behind-the-scenes discussion about the process of turning Star Wars characters into toys and gave attendees some insight into the work that goes into bringing characters from the screen into the toy lines. Not much more is known, apparently the TVC HasLab Gunship packaging was shown, but we received no images of the booth or any reports of the panel content.

Disney’s Droid Factory Continues

Disney’s Droid Factory program had additional activity surrounding D23. The event exclusive R7-D23 was available at the convention before receiving a limited online release. The fifth 3¾-inch Droid Factory figure created specifically for D23 came with a removable Sorcerer Mickey inspired hat and continued Disney’s long-running tradition of event themed astromechs. The Droid Factory Build-A-Droid concept also continued with additional releases. R0-M1 and RJ-83 became available as a single carded set on August 7. R0-M1 included an alternate RX-01 style head, allowing collectors to change its appearance, while RJ-83 added another small service droid to the growing lineup.

Disney also announced an upcoming D-Squad R2-D2. The figure is expected to cost $19.99 and is scheduled for release through Disney Parks and DisneyStore.com on September 4 at 8 a.m. Pacific Time. It will be the third release in Disney’s second Build-A-Droid series and will include another component for assembling RX-01.

The INT-4 Preorder Controversy

The Vintage Collection INT-4 Interceptor became the most controversial collecting story of August, likely of the entire year. 

Ahead of the preorder, the vehicle had been announced with a suggested retail price of $51.99. When the INT-4 preorder opened through Hasbro Pulse, however, collectors were confronted with a price of $79.99. This was an increase of $28, or approximately 54 percent.

Hasbro subsequently issued a correction and apologized, stating that the price announced during San Diego Comic-Con had been inaccurate. That explanation did little to calm the discussion. The INT-4 was available only through Hasbro Pulse at launch, and collectors in parts of Europe reported prices approaching €110, which was more than $125 at the time.

The INT-4 was not the only item affected by a corrected price. The Black Series AT-RT with 501st Legion ARF Trooper had initially been announced at $69.99 before being offered for $79.99. Together, the changes raised larger questions about pricing communication, regional costs, and whether collectors can rely on prices announced during official presentations. As the fallout intensified, Steve Evans, known to collectors as MrStevie18, deactivated his private Instagram account and stepped away from that social media presence. Evans is Hasbro’s Senior Director of Fan Product for Disney Brands and had maintained a visible presence within the collecting community. The controversy ultimately became about more than one vehicle. Collectors expect prices, exclusivity details, and preorder information communicated during official events to be dependable. Fans budget, cancel or shift meetings and appointments to make time for pre-orders, when those details change without warning, confidence can disappear quickly. In all those years covering Star Wars action figure news, we have never seen such a pr disaster like this. 

We’ve Been Busy With Updates

The biggest GalacticFigures update was the launch of Collector’s Corner and our improved site search.

Collector’s Corner gives registered members a dedicated collection profile. Members can write a short collector biography, select favorite toy lines, upload two collection photos, and decide whether their collection should be public or private. Public profiles can be browsed by other collectors, while rank badges, comments, and replies add more opportunities for community interaction.

These additions build upon the Member Hub tools already available on the site. Members can track preorders across different retailers, create a wish list, comment on figures, and leave figure ratings. We have more exciting website news coming shortly.

The search system also received a substantial overhaul. Search results now prioritize the GalacticFigures archive, provide shortcuts to character overview pages, and separate figure entries, news stories, and features into clearer groups. Improved suggestions and images should make it considerably easier to find a specific character, release, or article.

A Closer Look Features:

We published four new hands-on features during August:

• Power Of The Force Electronic X-Wing Fighter. A closer look at the 1995 vehicle from the beginning of the modern 3¾-inch Star Wars line.
• The Vintage Collection Orray And Geonosian Picador. An examination of a never-before-made creature and rider combination.
• The Vintage Collection Bantha. A detailed look at Hasbro’s updated version of one of Tatooine’s most recognizable creatures.
• Black Series 501st Legion AT-RT And ARF Trooper. Our examination of the San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, including the first ARF Trooper released in the Black Series.

Droid Factory Archive Updates

Disney’s Droid Factory releases also received new and updated archive coverage.

We added the D23 exclusive R7-D23, the Halloween themed R2-WRWLF, and the newly released R0-M1. R0-M1’s companion, RJ-83, was added as well.

There may not have been a huge number of Droid Factory releases this month, but these additions help keep the Disney section of the archive current while documenting the continued use of the Build-A-Droid format.

Hasbro Figure Archive Updates

Several newly announced and recently released Hasbro figures were added to the GalacticFigures archive during August.

The Retro Collection additions included Wedge Antilles, CZ-3, R4-M9, Captain Antilles, and Princess Leia Organa in her Yavin ceremony outfit.

Black Series archive work included both Jedi Temple Guard versions, Jaina Solo, Jacen Solo, Dogma, Hardcase, the Shoretrooper, the Magma Stormtrooper, Galen Marek, Mission Vao, Carth Onasi, the animated Droids Stormtrooper, and the matching Droids R2-D2.

The Vintage Collection additions included Anakin Skywalker and Commander Cody, along with Embo, Hera Syndulla, and the Mercenary Droid. We also added another Anakin Skywalker and Asajj Ventress pairing.

Final Thoughts

August gave collectors plenty to discuss, and for us the most exciting announcements came out of D23 with a new look at Ahsoka's second season, and maybe it even gave us a glimpse at what figures will be released next year. Thanks for reading, see ya next month for another recap!
